Who is Wayne?
About the Creator.
Hi! My name is Kelly Roberson and I couldn't be more grateful you're here and care enough to be reading this. I currently live in Nashville, TN as a singer songwriter, worship leader, and all around creative along with my wife Halle. I was born and raised in Birmingham, AL and if you're familiar with the area, I'm specifically from a small town on the southwest side call Hueytown. This is an important detail because my upbringing in Hueytown gave me all the lessons learned, experiences and memories I needed to dream up Wayne. Starting in my early 20s I had the privilege of traveling all over the world, and one of the many things I learned in my travels was that, although normal to me, my deep southern upbringing was anything but normal. The accents, hospitality, food, racing and car culture, sports and outdoors, the inner city traditions, and even the unintentional blue collar fashion is filled to the brim with character you can't find anywhere else in the world. I always loved growing up there and never despised it at all but I didn't know how interesting and unique it really was until after it was gone. Long in short, I miss it. So I created Wayne to bring it back.
What is Wayne?
Wayne is a lifestyle brand highlighting Southern icons and traditions of the past. Proudly based out of Nashville, Tennessee, we aim to capture what it was like growing up and living in one of the most flavorful corners of the United States. From the circle tracks in the East, across the wooded hills down into the bayous, up through the Smokies and everywhere in between, there’s 1000s of stories to be told. Some you’ve heard before and some you haven’t. Think of Wayne as a magazine, but instead of pages our articles are printed on items you wear or use.
Who is Wayne?
Wayne should be thought of as more of a person. Someone that isn’t necessarily real but we all know or have at least heard of a guy like him. Maybe he’s your granddad or your dad, or maybe he’s the guy that owns the bait shop you always bought night crawlers from in the summer. Wayne’s the guy that stops to help you, a stranger broke down on the side of the road, and of course he has a chain with him to tow you home with. It’s always behind the seat of his old truck right next to the tool box he inherited from his dad after he passed away years ago. Blue collar to his core but respected among all the other collar colors. Treats everyone with respect no matter who you are or where you’re from. He’s got a bit of a past so he’s a little rough around edges but still safe. Everyone loves him, how could you not? He laughs a lot, a man of few words but when he speaks everyone around quiets down to hear. Keeps an eye on the neighborhood and If you smell bbq, it’s coming from Wayne’s house. He loves being outside, has a bluetick named Kate and a walker named Jack that he uses for his main hobby, coonhuntin. Those dogs aren’t pets, they’re family. He’s got more guns in his house than he needs and none of them are new. He had an old pickup rotting away in his yard that belonged to his dad but he sold it to one of his grandsons for a nickel. He drives an older truck daily but loves fast cars as long as they’re Detroit made. If you’re working on something and need to borrow a tool, you know who to call. His Bible has high miles, probably needs replaced and it’s always sitting on the table next to his recliner. He goes to church every Sunday and sits in the same pew. He’s a man. A true Southern Luxury.
What are Southern Luxuries?
Although we aim to use the highest quality products available, a Southern Luxury is a term we use to describe any nostalgic person, place, or thing that would be considered highly valued and forever praised, specifically within the South. This term will be our #1 filter throughout the curation process of everything we do or design.
